Final workshop of the “Sevan” National Park Management Plan development process
During the 21 April event in the city of Sevan, Gegharkunik region, the management plan for Sevan National Park was formally handed over to Karen Mnatsakanyan, the Director of the “Sevan” National Park SNCO.
The event was attended by UNDP Deputy Representative in Armenia Konstantin Sokulskiy, the Head of Cooperation of the EU Delegation to Armenia Frank Hess, representatives from the RA Ministry of Environment, Gegharkunik Governor’s Office, local communities, as well as other state institutions involved in the sector, international, scientific and non-governmental organizations.
In his welcoming speech, UNDP Deputy Representative in Armenia Konstantin Sokulskiy acknowledged the significance of the strategic documents developed within the framework of the project and expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their significant contributions and great work during the development of the management plan.
Before officially transferring the management plan to Karen Mnatsakanyan, the Director of the “Sevan” National Park SNCO, a presentation detailing the development process and outcomes of Sevan National Park’s management plan was delivered. The ceremony concluded with attendees taking a tour of the museum within the “Sevan” National Park.
The development of the Sevan National Park management plan is part of the “Environmental Protection of Lake Sevan” (EU4Sevan) UNDP project and has been implemented by the consortium of the Institute of Botany after A. Takhtajyan SNCO NAS RA (Armenia), Soluton LLC (Armenia), DHP Conservation Ltd (Czech Republic), and NaravaNarave d.o.o (Slovenia), in close cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and other stakeholders.
The Project “Environmental Protection of Lake Sevan” (EU4Sevan) is co-funded by the European Union (EU) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It is part of the the BMZ-funded programme “Management of natural resources and safeguarding of ecosystem services for sustainable rural development in the South Caucasus (ECOserve)․” The project is implemented by GIZ and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
