The Institute of Botany after A. Takhtajyan NAS RA State-Non-Commercial Organization (SNCO) was founded in 1938. It manages all three botanical gardens of Armenia in Yerevan, Sevan and Vanadzor. It is the primary scientific research institution in Armenia that focuses on the study of plant diversity and conservation issues throughout the country. For over 80 years, the Institute and its staff have carried out a diverse range of research and conservation activities. The Herbarium of the Institute of Botany (ERE) holds over half a million herbarium sheets, including specimens collected from Armenia and the Caucasus region (177,000) and various regions worldwide (80,000).
